Sociological Teaching in Global Classrooms--Online or Offline

Monday, 7 July 2025: 11:00-12:45
Location: FSE034 (Faculty of Education Sciences (FSE))
TG09 Sociological Teaching (host committee)

Language: English

“Teaching sociology” will focus on 3 major themes: 1) Teaching sociology in global/comparative perspectives; 2) Online or virtual classrooms in global sociological teaching; and 3) Sociological pedagogy and new technological applications in teaching sociology. These three themes will roughly cover most of the grounds attracting papers across the globe about various aspects of teaching.

Teaching sociology in global/comparative perspectives will invite scholars who teach various sociological courses to add a global and comparative lens. The ISA conference will provide a platform to bring professors or professionals together to share techniques and insights in sociological teaching using global comparative perspectives.

Online or virtual classrooms in global sociological teaching is a rapidly growing field since Covid-19. Virtual classrooms across borders have brought students and faculty from all corners of the globe together to study and discuss various sociological issues in the same virtual space. ISA in Melbourne Australia brought together a group of sociologists who shared their virtue-teaching experiences. This forum in Morocco will provide an opportunity to bring together former as well as new scholars who have had experiences teaching sociology in virtual classrooms.

Sociological pedagogy and new technological applications in sociological teaching will focus on teaching pedagogy and technological applications related to pedagogy in sociological teaching. Sharing teaching experiences and lessons among sociologists will help advance sociological teaching online or offline.
