This session presents papers on participatory policing in contemporary societies. In the build-up to more democratic and innovative governance across the globe, the idea of making policing more participatory has gained ground in modern societies. Citizens now play more active roles in crime prevention and control. The session will discuss the issues and challenges arising from participatory forms of policing such as community policing, intelligence-led policing, and problem-oriented policing. Empirical and conceptual papers on participatory policing will be presented while lessons to be learnt from various countries will be highlighted by participants. This session will be a regular session where paper presenters will be given between 15 and 20 minutes to make their presentations.
