This session explores the intricate concepts of ‘agency’, ‘autonomy’, and ‘tactics’ as they relate to ‘space and place’, offering an introduction to the sociological study of resistance, dissent, and social change. Panelists will utilize theoretical frameworks and empirical research to present diverse forms of resistance within social, political, economic, cultural, artistic, and armed contexts. Using Palestinian society as a focal case study, we will dissect the dynamics of power, inequality, and social movements, and scrutinize the role of resistance in challenging dominant structures and promoting social justice.
The session aims to:
- Critically assess the effectiveness and limitations of various forms of resistance, evaluating their impact on challenging dominant systems and driving social change.
- Investigate interdisciplinary approaches to understanding resistance, integrating insights from art, music, drama, and political science, and exploring their intersections with sociology.
