This dialogic panel delves into the public dimension of love and its potential for social transformation within the socio-political sphere. Featuring three distinguished sociologists who serve as Presidents of national research bodies — Prof. Edna Castro from the Brazilian Sociological Association, Prof. Stefano Tomelleri from the Italian Sociological Association, and Prof. Wonho Jang from the Korean Social Science Research Council — the conversation aims to uncover how love can foster a more compassionate and interconnected society.
Drawing upon the diverse experiences of different research networks, the session will discuss how love can contribute to social development and promote ecological-relational changes for individuals and communities. Specifically, the panel will focus on the interconnection of social love with emotions, social empathy, and social actions, emphasizing their complex role in enhancing care for others and the world.
