In many parts of the world, the calls for decolonizing sociology have grown rapidly. But how is this work done, and more importantly, in ways that it reaches the widest audience? The session will feature cases of decolonizing practice, including those directed particularly at young people. The session will be partly invited, featuring authors curating theories from different parts of the world, written in formats directed towards undergraduate audiences. While graduate students are more likely to learn about some theories and theorists from the global South today, undergraduate teaching continues to focus on Northern origin theories. What are the challenges of producing the material, curating sets of theories written outside the Northern norms? The papers presented will talk about the prospects and challenges of working within academic settings that continue to reflect Northern structures and expectations. A variety of cases are welcome.
