Cultural Differences in Happiness

Wednesday, 9 July 2025: 11:00-12:45
Location: FSE007 (Faculty of Education Sciences (FSE))
RC55 Social Indicators (host committee)

Language: English

This session calls for papers addressing the cultural differences in happiness across regions. The literature has revealed significant discrepancies between Euro-Americans and other regions in terms of the concept of happiness and its determinants. When happiness measures are used as social indicators for better policymaking, such heterogeneity should be adjusted appropriately. Empirical studies of cultural differences in happiness from a comparative perspective are welcome. We welcome quantitative and qualitative approaches based on various data sources, including digital big data, and experimental design as well. Theoretical studies on measurement development are also appreciated.
