Empowering Voices through Knowledge of Organisations and Their Communication, Building Just Futures in the Anthropocene (Part I)

Wednesday, 9 July 2025: 09:00-10:45
Location: FSE031 (Faculty of Education Sciences (FSE))
RC17 Sociology of Organization (host committee)
RC14 Sociology of Communication, Knowledge and Culture

Language: English and Spanish

This session brings together ISA’s Research Committees 14 and 17 with AISOC and opens space for the participation of researchers in the field of Organisations, Communication and Sustainable Development.

The session will discuss relevant questions such as: What does "knowing" mean in the context of the Anthropocene? Whose knowledge counts? What forms of knowledge are prioritised, and with what consequences for social change? While some sub-disciplines have actively contributed to academic and public debates, sociology in general has not been at the centre of these debates about living conditions with and in the Anthropocene. How might engaging the sociological imagination in debates about the Anthropocene better contribute to these public debates about our individual and collective capacities to live together in such an epoch?

This session provides a platform to deepen and answer the questions posed, both from a theoretical and empirical perspective. Academics and practitioners are invited to participate. This call seeks to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue to analyse the challenges of the Anthropocene from multiple angles. Contributions from the sociology of organisations and communication are expected to provide new insights and innovative approaches to understanding and addressing the social, political and cultural implications of this new geological era. The richness of perspectives and the synergy between the different disciplines represented in this forum will be fundamental to develop situated and transformative knowledge that better equips researchers, practitioners and citizens to face the challenges of the Anthropocene in a collaborative and socially just manner.
