The Palestinian struggle offers a unique lens to explore the dynamics of social movements, collective action, and transformative change in contexts of conflict and oppression. This session will bring together scholars to examine the multifaceted nature of social movements and their broader implications for sociological theory and practice regarding the case of Palestine. We welcome contributions that address the following themes:

Historical and Contemporary Movements: Analyses of the evolution of Palestinian social movements, from armed resistance and intifadas to contemporary forms of civil disobedience and digital activism.

Global and Local Intersections: Studies on how Palestinian and worldwide social justice movements intersect, including the influence of
international solidarity campaigns such as the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Cultural Dimensions: Explorations of the role of culture, identity, and collective memory in mobilising and sustaining movements. This includes using cultural symbols, narratives, and the arts in the resistance.

Intersectionality and Social Justice: Papers that investigate the intersectional nature of Palestinian movements, linking them with broader struggles for racial, economic, and gender justice globally.

This session seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and advance our understanding of how social movements operate under conditions of severe repression. We aim to highlight the resilience and agency of communities in their pursuit of justice and self- determination. We encourage submissions from diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives.

This is a session being collaboratively proposed on Palestine by ISA members from RC44 (Labour Movements), RC47 (Social Classes and Social Movements), and RC48 (Social Movements, Collective Actions, and Social Change).
