Joint Session of RC38 Biography and Society and RC32 Women, Gender and Society

Our panel will tackle the question of what role notions of gender (in-)justice play in the context of migration. We ask what kind of experiences of gendered (in)justice migrants have during migration processes, and how these experiences are narratively articulated. Do these notions contribute to the (re-)production of given societal gender relations and individual gender arrangements, or can they challenge them? We invite papers that discuss biographical experiences and narrative representations of gendered (in-)justice in diverse migration contexts, including different (often paradoxical) migration policies to which migrants are exposed on transnational, national, and local levels. We particularly welcome contributions that are based on qualitative empirical studies focusing on the individual perception and biographical evaluation of knowing (in-)justice when crossing borders in the transnational space.
