Transnational Solidarities and Territorial Dynamics

Monday, 7 July 2025: 11:00-12:45
Location: SJES014 (Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences (JES))
RC09 Social Transformations and Sociology of Development (host committee)

Language: English and French

This session aims to delve into the role of different forms of transnational solidarities in fostering territorial dynamics, both rural and urban, around the world. We welcome submissions that critically analyze the various dimensions of transnational solidarities, their associated practices, such as private and public forms of entrepreneurship, exchange practices, investment strategies, and foreign official aid, and their impact on the social, economic, cultural, and political aspects of territorial dynamics.

We particularly encourage papers exploring the following:

  1. The influence of transnational individual action on territorial dynamics (e.g., the role of transnational private solidarities developed within migrant networks in fostering territorial dynamics in the migrants' home countries).
  2. The role of transnational collective actions of civil society organizations in fostering policies for territorial development.
  3. The impact of intergovernmental action programs on territorial dynamics.
  4. The international organizations' action, such as UN agencies, to align official aid with territorial development goals.

We encourage papers adopting different theoretical and methodological approaches, particularly interdisciplinary, comparative, and empirical approaches.
