With the frequency and intensity of natural hazards rising due to climate change, the likelihood of disasters occurring in unique settings, such as in the middle of the night or in unlikely locations, has increased. Based on existing disaster response theories, it is likely that the public and emergency managers will face different types of social and environmental contexts when dealing with these unique disasters compared to seasonal disasters. This session seeks to demonstrate how the general public and emergency managers respond to disasters that occur in unique settings and to provide policy suggestions to help emergency managers address issues commonly encountered during disaster response.
