This session invites theoretical, empirical, and/or reflective discussions of sociological teaching that seeks to promote diverse ways of knowing, being, and doing.

Topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Critical self-reflections regarding our own teaching practices
  • Critical Pedagogies
  • Social Justice Pedagogies
  • Deconstructing the canon
  • Teaching practices in sociology that seek to challenge dominant ways of knowing
  • Research that examines the impact of dominant ways of knowing on marginalized students
  • Research that examines the effectiveness of teaching practices that promote diverse ways of knowing, being, and doing
  • Critical investigations of core content and dominant teaching methods
