In 2025, the global community will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995). On the other hand, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. This panel proposes to bring together the vision and commitment set at the Beijing Declaration in 1995 and connect it with SDG 5 on Gender Equality. Taking an intersectional perspective, this panel intends to understand practices and policies related to gender and education, health, decision making and environment in different countries in a post pandemic and pre 2030 SDG target achieving world.

While the development matrix across world communities would have evolved and transformed since the 1995 Beijing Declaration, it is important to recognise and bring together voices from the marginalised communities with intersecting identities like gig workers, domestic workers, lesbians, transgenders, disabled and single persons. This session is also interested in climate change and its impact on gender and social justice. Climate-induced disruptions disproportionately affect women and other marginalized groups, mentioned above. Making an assessment on legislations and policies related to civil, political and economic rights across nation states would enable this panel to both make a holistic assessment of SDG 5 as well as suggest gender just developmental strategies before the 2030 achievement.
