Patient Public Involvement (PPI) is gaining increasing attention worldwide. The changing relationship between healthcare professionals and patients and the feasibility of PPI in healthcare will be explored and discussed in this session. The relationship between healthcare professionals and patients is evolving significantly, influenced by technological advances, changes in healthcare delivery models and societal changes. Patients increasingly access health information via the internet and social media. As a result, health literacy among patients and the general public has improved and people are taking a more active role in managing their own health. Health professionals are also becoming aware that the emphasis should be on patient-centered care that prioritizes the individual needs, preferences and values of patients. And they are adapting to this change by providing personalized education and resources to help patients make informed decisions about their care. Healthcare professionals are also becoming more involved in patients' own health decision-making processes and are trying to foster a more collaborative and empowering relationship. However, there are some challenges to achieving PPI. Social science examination of how effective these changes are in improving outcomes, whether the patient experience has improved and whether health equity has been promoted will be needed. You are welcome to participate in this session.
