In recent years, Sociology has experienced attacks across wide swaths of the globe. Administrators of higher education, admittedly under growing pressure, are bending in the face of state and/or private donor mandates to ideologically muzzle, downsize, merge or eliminate sociologists and their departments. In some cases, these attacks have been highly aggressive as sociologists are singled out as unwelcome critics and subjected to threats of persecution, incarceration and other forms of violence, uniformly tagged as subversive, unpatriotic, “woke,” dissident or dangerous individuals. The recent ideological momentum of ultra right-wing politics has further fueled the pressure, particularly for critical sociologists. This session seeks to uncover the economic dimension of the global offensive against critical sociological inquiry and contextualize it within the larger crisis of global capitalism in its neoliberal phase. Sociologists from all corners of the globe are invited to share accounts and their insights
