This session invites contributions exploring the dynamics of social inequality and mobility across diverse regions, with a focus on comparative frameworks that enhance our understanding of social origins, mobility patterns, and regional challenges. We seek studies that address the development of indices for measuring social origins and their role in shaping inequalities across generations, as well as analyses that contrast social mobility mechanisms in Latin America and Europe. This session also welcomes research on regional disparities within countries. By examining these dynamics, we aim to uncover the factors that create either vicious or virtuous cycles of inequality and to identify strategies for improving social mobility in varied socio-economic contexts. Papers should aim to deepen the theoretical and empirical understanding of inequality’s impact on social mobility and inform policies promoting equitable development.
