Coloniality, Inequality, and Families. Experience from the Global South

Wednesday, 9 July 2025: 19:00-20:30
Location: ASJE013 (Annex of the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences)
RC06 Family Research (host committee)

Language: English and Spanish

The family in the Global South is a victim of two historical processes: coloniality and inequality. Latin American, African and Asian families still need to face past experiences of exclusions, expulsions, reproduction of alienation, and - what Anibal Quijano called - "coloniality of knowledge" (colonialidad del saber). Moreover, Latin America is the most unequal region of the world in terms of economic resources. This session - in English and Spanish - is open for the proposals that explore the contemporary challenges of families from the Global South, and which uncovers the legacy of colonialism in everyday lives.
