Structure and Change in Alternative Agriculture: The Roles of Policy and Markets in Alternative Food Initiatives

Friday, 11 July 2025: 09:00-10:45
Location: ASJE025 (Annex of the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences)
RC40 Sociology of Agriculture and Food (host committee)

Language: English and French

Alternative forms of agricultural production often confront conventional social, political, and economic arrangements. New marketing forms and policy interventions may open opportunities for change, enable resistance to change, or potentially both. This session considers opportunities and challenges for alternative food in relation to policy and markets, considering, for example, the enactment of new policies, destabilization of markets created through Covid 19, or the scaling alternative food initiatives from the grassroots.
