WG10 Digital Sociology

Language: English

The significance of digital technologies in enhancing disaster preparedness, response, and recovery has been highlighted in local and global perspectives and efforts on disaster risk reduction and management, including the widely adopted Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. It is necessary to integrate sociological insights in understanding the relevance and utility of digital tools in building resilient communities. The session addresses the crucial role of digital platforms in crisis communication, data collection, and resource distribution. We invite research on diverse topics, including digital communication strategies, the role of social media in crisis management, and the impact of digital inequality on disaster outcomes. Additionally, we encourage studies on the effectiveness of digital early warning systems and the use of big data analytics in disaster risk assessment. This session aims to advance a comprehensive research agenda, bridging sociological theory with practical DRRM solutions.
