RC22 Sociology of Religion (host committee)

Language: English

This session explores the intersection of religion and the Anthropocene, examining how religious beliefs, practices, and institutions respond to environmental crises. We will delve into diverse religious and spiritual perspectives on climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecological justice, analyzing how faith communities navigate these challenges. Additionally, we will explore the tensions and negotiations that arise within and between religious and spiritual groups as they address ecological issues, as well as the sacred views on the planet that inform their responses. By adopting a sociological lens, we aim to understand the complex dynamics at play, including the role of religion in shaping environmental discourses, practices, and policies, and the ways in which religious actors engage with broader societal and ecological transformations.
