The rapid pace of technological advancement, coupled with significant societal and climate changes, has introduced a myriad of new risks that particularly affect older persons. This session aims to explore these modern risks as well as provide insights to mitigate them, ensuring the safety, well-being, and dignity of our ageing population. Session objectives might include but are not limited to the identification of modern risks, analysis of impacts, examination of intersectionality and, finally, proposal of mitigation and emergency management strategies. This session is designed not only for academics, but also for professionals working with older adults, policymakers, technology developers, healthcare providers, social workers, and anyone interested in the intersection of sociology, ageing and modern risks. Respecting the format of regular sessions, individual speakers will be able to present their papers with a Q&A discussion afterwards. The aim of this session is to leave participants with a deeper understanding of the modern risks older persons face and practical tools to address these challenges. They will be equipped to advocate for better protections and support systems, ultimately contributing to a safer and more inclusive society for older adults.
