Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal for Sanitation: An Analysis of Sociological Factors Affecting Access to Safe Sanitation

This session examines the issues and challenges related to the sociology of sanitation, with a particular focus on improving sanitation practices and access in low-income and marginalized communities. Through a review of the literature related to safe sanitation , we need to prioritize equity and social justice concerns, to focus on behavior change and community engagement, and to tailor interventions to specific cultural and social contexts. This session emphasize the need for interdisciplinary and context-specific approaches, need for research and evaluation to inform effective interventions. With suggestions and recommendations for practitioners and policymakers working to improve sanitation practices and access in low-income and marginalized communities. By working collaboratively across disciplines, engaging with communities and stakeholders, and prioritizing equity and social justice, we can work towards a world where basic sanitation is a fundamental human right, rather than a luxury reserved for the privileged few.
