Monday, 7 July 2025: 09:00-10:45
Location: ASJE032 (Annex of the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences)
RC20 Comparative Sociology (host committee)

Language: English

Vocational education and training (VET) enables young adults to participate in the labour market by transmitting general and specific job- and occupation-related skills and competencies. Compared to tertiary education, VET is less restrictive in access and thus allows wider participation. However, access to and outcomes of VET highly depend on the structure and institutional setup of the education system, labour market, their linkage and respective policies.

This session aims to bring together cross-nationally comparative research on different VET systems or regimes to show variation in VET participation and outcomes. It invites both large-scale internationally comparative studies and research on few countries; contributions considering countries of the Global South are particularly welcome.

Judith OFFERHAUS, Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, Germany and Nate BREZNAU, University of Bremen, Germany
