This session welcomes papers on the biographical consequences of activism. It calls, in particular, for contributions on the effects of participation in Latin American Social movements on the lives of activists. Papers might address impacts on the life trajectories, political views, civic engagement, occupation, marriage and fertility decisions of participants as well as on other areas of life. Research from a comparative perspective that examines the gendered consequences of activism is most welcome. Comparisons across movements, with a particular focus on indigenous versus non indigenous movements, and violence related movements versus nonviolence related movements is also looked for. Finally, papers that include the role of state and nonstate repression in the biographical consequences of activism is appreciated. However, the session is open to other proposals.
