Current Involvement and Opportunities with the United Nations

Thursday, 10 July 2025: 17:00-18:45
Location: SJES002 (Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences (JES))

Language: English

The United Nations focuses on five key areas: maintaining international peace and security; protecting human rights; delivering humanitarian aid; supporting sustainable development and climate action; as well as upholding international law. Sociologists have been involved in all these very important areas with the UN and we are interested in knowing about those involvements as well as encouraging other sociologists to join us.

This professional development session will have sociologists discuss their work with areas such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), the UN Crime Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), ageing (for a report to the UN), Committee on the Status of Women and Open-Ended Working Group on Aging. The panelists also will talk about opportunities to get involved with the UN. Members of the audience will be able to contribute information about their experiences working with the UN and mention any additional opportunities for sociologists to participate.
