Trust and Distrust in the Digital Society (Part II)
Friday, 11 July 2025: 13:00-14:45
Location: FSE036 (Faculty of Education Sciences (FSE))
WG10 Digital Sociology (host committee) Language: English
This session aims to discuss aspects related to the creation, management and understandings of trust and distrust in the Digital Society. The underlying assumption is that the digital transformation of everyday life provoked a renovation of the understanding of trust and distrust, and this session wants to gather the sociological discussion regarding the validity of the current definitions of trust and distrust when applied to the implementation of current data-driven technologies.
This discussion is relevant and timely, not only given the renewed interest in finding the touchpoints between dis/trust and digital-related issues but also to provide a room for discussion of different approaches to the topic by different sociological theoretical families and to explore practical research conducted in the topic.
