Science, technology, and innovation (ST&I) activities require robust institutional coordination, funding, planning, and a clear understanding of stakeholder capabilities, policies, and agendas. This RC23 session aims to discuss emerging comprehensive interdisciplinary frameworks in fields such as sociology, public policy, and management for investigating ST&I systems in contemporary societies. All theoretical and applied studies attentive to the role of institutions, stakeholders, public policies, industry and the States in ST&I development is welcomed. To ensure an adequate debate and discussion about the nature of these systems, the session welcomes work advancing comparative analysis and multi-level, multi-cultural approaches to ST&I. Specifically, it focuses on outcomes from empirical sociological research on how institutions, policies, arenas, and agendas influence the production of ST&I within diverse cultural, technical, and political contexts.
