Saturday, 21 July 2018: 10:30-12:20
Location: 801A (MTCC SOUTH BUILDING)

RC32 Women in Society (host committee)

Language: English

This session seeks to explore the multiple expressions and sites of violence against women. It hopes to engage with diversity in ways through which the experience of violence could be analyzed and theorized. Placing India as a site, the session will analyze the intersectionality of multiple structures-class, caste, region, age, etc. It will reflect on how it not only frames their lives but also how it shapes the experience of violence within the structures. The session will address the following questions:

1. What are the multiple sites of violence against women and how do we analytically locate them?

2. What are the ways in which our engagement on violence can enrich  understanding of newer ways in which women experience violence?

3. How do we engage with the site-India-which is now popularly associated with 'violence against women'?

4. How do we reengage with experiences such as 'Honor Killing', 'Domestic Violence', 'Violence in Classrooms', etc., to develop newer insights?
