Social Inequality in Access to and Returns from Graduate Education

Tuesday, 17 July 2018: 10:30-12:20
Location: 716B (MTCC SOUTH BUILDING)

RC28 Social Stratification (host committee)

Language: English

Social inequality in educational attainment is a core topic of stratification research. Yet, little is known about potential differences (for instance, by social origin, gender or previous educational pathways) at the top level, graduate and doctoral education. This session seeks papers that address either access to advanced higher education or respective returns

Of particular interest are (I) the role of differentially selective education systems in shaping (un-)equal educational participation at the highest level; and (II) how country-differences in labor market institutions yield different returns to the highest level of educational attainment.
