Drawing on work on the emergence of 'free trade zones' (Mercier, 1997, 2017) and industrial and commercial 'grey zones' (Azaïs, 2014), we hypothesize that the warehousing function plays a crucial role in the organization of what some economists call the 'warehouse economy' (Gereffy G. and Korzeniewicz M., 1994). These zones are particularly active in crisis areas (dereliction), where they form veritable enclaves of local anarchy. They are also places of innovation that reveal real changes in labour relations and in the organisation of labour markets. Because they articulate the rational management of stocks, the flexibility of employment and the multi-scalarity of circuits, these zones are privileged temporary spaces for understanding the changes underway in transnational economies. This session aims to develop a forum for debate that will allow us to characterise the effect of this new international division of labour, which generates processes of transformation of territories, ruptures, storage areas, productive areas and circulation areas.

Key words: International division of labour, intermediaries, warehouse capitalism, globalisation.
