Over the last forty years, the world has been undergoing a process of transition towards a new international division of labour in which the old productive centralities are giving way to other regions to take the lead in development. This process is not linear on a global scale, nor are its effects within countries, as 'winner and loser' territories are being created, not least because of the strong impact of global value chains. This session aims to develop a forum for debate that will characterise the effect of this new international division of labour that generates processes of deindustrialisation, emerging industrialisation and reconversion of industrial regions. Another analytical possibility to analyse the displacement of capital between territories is the impact on urban landscapes where traditional formal and informal labour activities are mixed and connected, in a scenario of organised and planned labour migration that is increasingly global.
