Theories of social change have long placed a great emphasis on innovation as a critical component of producing technological change, economic growth, and social justice. While recent conflict oriented theories have tended to de-emphasize such considerations, innovation continues to be an important and poorly understood aspect of development - one that interacts with larger structural, cultural and political dynamics. The papers in this session show that the study of innovation has advanced far beyond its 1950 roots.
