COVID-19 has greatly reshaped family life, as well as all spheres of life. It has significantly affected the daily routines of the family as well as the relationships and division of labor within the family. COVID-19, which threatens the health of family members, has also decimated the income and work opportunities of families, negatively affecting the well-being of families, their social cohesion and the relationships between family members, especially in the lockdown periods. Despite these risks, COVID-19, which has also created opportunities such as increased time spent by family members together, has also led to increased domestic conflicts and gender inequalities. By restricting physical interactions with co-resident family members, household has taken on a privileged role as a very important social laboratory for studying the impact of COVID-19 on family life. In this context, this session proposal is designed to answer the following interrelated questions:
- How has the COVID-19 affected the daily routines, domestic relations (parent-child, inter-spousal, intergenerational, etc...), division of labor, gender roles, social cohesion, well-being (income and employment) in the family?
- Have these effects taken place in different forms in different family structures (solo, lone-parent, couple with children, couple without children, complex and other)?
- Have the effects of the COVID-19 also taken different forms for children, women, men, adults and elderly individuals in the family?
Undoubtedly, this session is also open to other research questions that fall outside of these questions, but fall within the scope of the effects of the pandemic on the family life.
