TG04 Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Part 1: Methods and Methodologies

This session presents papers which consider methodological aspects and discuss issues related to the use of specific methods and methodologies when researching risk, uncertainty and ignorance

Part 2: (Voluntary) Risk Taking

Risk taking has been neglected in the mainstream societal approaches to risk such as the risk society, governmentality, and risk culture. In contrast the edgework approach (Lyng 2005) has focused on voluntary risk taking while recent approaches have tried to broaden the understanding of risk taking (Zinn 2020). This session contains papers with empirical and/or theoretical approaches to risk taking which contribute to the debate on edgework and beyond to improve understanding of risk taking in present day societies.
