Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’ essentially advocates long term strategies for the integration of development endeavours, environmental policies and an effective blueprint for future growth based on the principle of SDGs. However, in contemporary times, the widespread endemic pursuit by the nations to control nature, plundered environment and blatantly undermined the prospect of sustainable development which to a large extent belied the liberal democratic ideals of equity, justice and the chances of peaceful existence of human beings on the earth. Disequilibrium between social and economic needs, political cravings and natural environment has become more widespread in the 21st century globalized world. Fast depletion of natural resources, environmental catastrophe and most importantly widening of social and economic disparities amongst people and between nations are quite apparent today. Subsequently, the humanity is witness to extreme natural calamities; global warming and climate change; loss of bio-diversity; soil, water, air and land pollutions; urban sprawl and depletion of forest cover; poverty and food insecurity; increased morbidity and mortality and manifold health problems; issues of waste disposal etc., that have created a question mark on the prospect of social and environmental justice along with human survival and became a focal concern for the whole world. So papers are invited on various aspects of global frameworks and local actions, linkages between environment, sustainable development and social justice in contemporary times to construct the possibilities of a better future on the earth.
