Comparative Analysis of Transnational Migration Communities and the Formation of New Urban Ethnicity in the Global Cities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Online Culture

The popular press and political leaders claim that migration and new urban ethnicity are not only the hottest topics but almost unresolvable problems nowadays. The Special Session we propose to organize in the framework of the ISA World Congress in Melbourne outlines three challenges sociologists need to concentrate on to achieve productive outcomes in the understanding formation of new urban ethnicity in global cities:

  1. a comparative outlook.
  2. a transnational perspective.
  3. a new theoretical paradigm for the solution in the Age of AI and online culture.

The overarching aim of the Session is to increase our understanding of the recent developments and new reality of transnational migrants' everyday life in global cities in the age of dramatic changes coming with AI and online culture. We'll pursue the aim through the comparative analysis and examination of the cases in different global cities.

Many professional publications are focusing on macroeconomic issues of new urban ethnicity. The concentration for this Session will be on meso and micro issues, such as relationships between local citizens and newly arrived migrants. We'll discuss the development of non-governmental relations with influence the international exchanges through transnational channels. We also aim to discuss governmental responses to the COVID-19 pandemic by analyzing their impacts on the activity of transnational migrants and new ethnic communities in different global cities.
