This session brings together three bodies of interrelated research that examines contentious debates as to the relationship between 'the market' and 'society'. We begin with research examining two different forms of this debate within the World Bank over time and within the US Federal Reserve Bank. The session then transitions to contentious political debates regarding climate denialism and climate activism in Sweden, the US, the UK, Kenya and Uganda. Finally, the session ends by looking at the values and beliefs embedded in the emerging FinTech industry in Australia.
