In a visible way in this century social movement studies have taken note of and developed research on emotions. There are consequently many individual and collective publications on the role of emotions in mobilizing, sustaining and dissipating social movements. While contemporary neo-liberal and populist movements have attracted much attention, also on emotions related to them, at the margin of social movement research there are at least two areas: civil disobedience and emotions and transnational movements and emotions. Both have been essential to the history of social protest, yet civil disobedience has not until recently (Daher ed. 2022) been focal in research of the social movement scholars whilst methodological nationalism limited the scope of analysis to local and nation-wide social movements. This Joint Session of RC48 and WG08 welcomes presentations on these topics. Presentations on the transnational movements, including these of activist experts, spreading the idea of civil disobedience, its creed and strategies, are particularly welcome.
