Recent decades witness an expanding social inequality within and across the nation states under the neo-liberal political climate. The dynamics of capitals partly explains it through their accumulation, mutual transformation, and inheritance to others. The forms of capital could include not only conventional ones such as economic, human, cultural, and social capital but also novel ones such as erotic and genetic as far as we can control them. This session invites papers tackling this classical agenda with innovative ideas, methods, and/or datasets from the rational choice perspective. Especially encouraged but not excluding others are the studies scrutinizing the opportunities and limits of the concept of rationality in explaining how capital dynamics produce, preserve, or even expand social inequality. Both empirical and theoretical works are welcome.
