What is the relationship between economy and precarity? How does a particular form of economy engender forms of precariousness that are endemic? What might we learn from a comparative study of precarity across several forms of economy? This session discusses how precarity unfolds across platform labor, social media, and informal labor. In doing so, the session indulges in a comparative understanding of how power structures in each form of economy find a way to render labor to several forms of precariousness. The session assesses the convergences and divergences among the forms of economy using precarity as a heuristic. Through this comparative assessment the session advances the understanding of the intricate relationship through which economy and precarity become Janus faced.
