Language related problems for people moving and settling their own and their descendants in new destinations across the world are not a new phenomenon. Around language and migrants generations, and more specifically about the processes of assimilation, acculturation and integration, there exist a vast scientific literature. Nevertheless, our session aim to revisit and debate current scientific production considering crucial new social processes and entanglements of 21th Century. Changes in migration patterns, transformation in receiving structures at labor and education levels, new forms of common sense and knowledge production, or resurgent forms of authoritarism are all processes with effects on key social issues such as citizenship and full democratization of our societies. Invited papers to the session should make an emphasis in how immigrants generations relate to the new social processes, including, to cite a few, the following issues:
- Language anxieties across generations and new forms of authoritarism
- Changes in intergenerational knowledge and common-sense production regarding languages origin and host languages
- New migration processes and its effects on heritage and indigenous languages, subordinate and superordinate languages
- Intergenerational differences on building citizenship and democratic participation through language.
- Labor and education transformations effects on language lost and maintenance
- Aspirations and expectations of immigrant generations regarding new tendencies in language assimilation, acculturation and integration.
