RC35 Conceptual and Terminological Analysis (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
Since the postulation of the term "collective memory" by the French Sociologist Maurice Halwbachs, the Memory Studies field has debated the possible meanings, limitations, and potential that the term "memory" may have within Sociology. The idea of "social memory," which emerged late in the 1980s, was an attempt to encompass all sociological conceptions of memory without necessarily being linked to the presence of a "social group," as predicted by Halwbachs. Since then, much has been written about it, and new approaches to memory have been developed. This section is open to receiving works that discuss new concepts and terminologies from the field of Memory Studies that deal with approaches that consider the interaction with the body, the senses, and the tacit knowledge.
