Session Type: Oral

In a crisis context, with autoritharism on the rise and social sciences revising discussions on democracy and citizenship, reflecting upon the role of women proves to be crucial. Parting from the fact that In 2020, the UN has described the violence against women to be the “shadow pandemic”, a radical question needs further research: what was and is the role of their body, in new and old social and theoretical movements.

From a sociology of bodies/emotions, this session parts from an analitycal framework that seeks to understand and resarch the politics of sensibilities: socio-cognitive practices tending to the production, management and reproduction of horizons of action, disposition and cognition. Then, observing situated practices (sensu Haraway), ranging from the history of social science (i.e. Funding Mothers in Latin America), to movements as the ever growing ecofeminism and its definition of body-territory, the present session aims at discussing -both from a current and historical perspective-, the role of the body of -and for- women.

From a methodological viewpoint, we focus on creative methodologies. It has already been stated that creativity revealed to be important during COVID19 crisis, in order to develop adaptative responses. Insisting on the importance of raising the issue of women both in the past and nowadays, we welcome theoretical, methodological and empirical reflections on broad themes, which convey social studies on how sensibilities are constructed, defining womens’ bodies, emotions and its role in society.
