Industrial revolution 4.0 has changed the mode of production and communication of the world community which becomes more widely connected through digital technology. In this era, social media become an important instrument for youth activism. Social movement sociologists have paid great attention to youth digital activism. However, sociological theories about youth digital activism still need further development, especially in considering a broad diversity of perspectives, classes, cultures, and social contexts. This session aims to enrich theories about youth digital activism by discussing research on youth digital activism from various countries related to strategic issues such as democracy, civil rights, social justice, cultural diversity, gender equality, environmental sustainability, etc. Proposals about communication within contemporary social mobilisations and the participatory logics of digital social movements will be welcome. In addition to theoretical research, we especially invite empirical contributions on memes, as a space between the body and the self, as a medium of resonance, and increasingly as a way that society produces itself.
