Art and Alienation. Social Theory and Art as Social Critique

How social theory grasps artistic phenomena as social critique? And how can artistic phenomena embed different narratives of society? How have social theories been theorizing about the social impact of artistic processes? And also about art power for social change and social awareness? Art forms can be forms of social critique and many social thinkers have inquired about the arts in order to grasp deep social symbols and emergent collective awareness. This session aims at opening a discussion on how and in which ways social theory has been successfully confronted to works of art as social expressions of a community and of a state of mind of a population.
