The concept of intersectionality has shed important light on the ways that race, ethnicity, class, citizenship, sexuality, religion, age, and other dimensions of subordination have shaped gender inequalities across the globe. More recently, sociological research has begun to analyze the factors that perpetuate global gender inequalities and the dimensions of globalization that contribute to these inequalities. What is the future of intersectionality, and how do intersectional approaches help us understand global gender inequalities? This session seeks papers that consider the future of intersectionality from a global perspective. It encourages participants to take into account how global capitalism and legacies of colonial power and imperialism complicate Western conceptualizations of intersectionality.
