WG06 Institutional Ethnography (host committee)

Language: English, French and Spanish

Session Type: Oral

This session highlights research that is informed by the ontology of Institutional Ethnography as applied to environmental dynamics, including but not restricted to: climate change governance, adaptation/mitigation strategies, disaster relief, aid, and/or development projects, programmes, policies.

We welcome research that investigates the relevance of texts in organising sustainable development projects and programmes or that explicates how people activate texts in environmental policy-making processes. The session will also include work that maps out institutional sequences of action, or that further explicates from an ethnographic perspective how people in the local setting experience the activation of projects and programmes in their lives.

Without anticipating the applications of the ontology of institutional ethnography to “the environment” or to “development” we hope to compile a session with a variety of research investigating the intersections between Institutional Ethnography as an approach to social research, and environmental/ climate change/ disaster relief/ planning/ aid/ development institutions, and the relations of ruling.
