Until recently, environmental sociologists, similar to many other fields of study focused on climate change, have directed their gaze to the anthropogenic causes of climate change, and mitigation. As the impacts of climate change continue to disrupt lives, livelihoods and ecosystems at unprecedented rates, however, environmental sociologists have increasingly turned their attention to climate impacts and adaptation. In these works, the distinctions, as well as commonalities, between North and South become clear.
