RC53 Sociology of Childhood (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Contemporary childhood research has increasingly moved towards more fluid, participatory, and reflexive methodologies. This shift has opened important discussions about how research approaches can better engage with children from minority communities, and diverse social, cultural, and geographical contexts.

This session invites both practice-based reflections and theoretical discussions on decolonising methodologies in research with children. We seek contributions that explore ethical, inclusive, creative, and culturally responsive approaches that sensitively engage with children from underrepresented backgrounds, lived experiences, and geopolitical contexts.

Through the exchange of recommendations, and innovative practices, this session brings together decolonial approaches to research with children, contributing to wider discussions in childhood studies on recognising children’s contextual and situated experiences and agency within research processes.
