Rethinking Embodiment, Power and Transformation Amid Global Turbulence

The study of bodies (particularly embodied experiences) within comparative transnational frameworks continues to offer a critical lens in globally turbulent times marked by, but not limited to, technological upheavals, inequalities, climate disruption, mobility restrictions and surveillance. As both analytical constructs and lived realities, bodies are sites through which vulnerability, control, and power are experienced and negotiated. Embodiment is shaped by race, gender, class, ability, geopolitics, digitalisation, care practices and other intersecting social forces. At the same time, bodies serve as sites of resistance, adaptation, and transformation, illuminating how social, psychological, economic, health-related, cultural, and techno-scientific determinants are continuously contested, constructed, and reconstructed in turbulent times.

This session invites contributions that bridge theory and empirical research, employ diverse methodological approaches and foster transdisciplinary dialogue across regions. We particularly encourage contributions examining how embodied experiences mediate the relationship between global structures and everyday life, and how bodies become sites through which inequalities are reproduced, contested, and transformed across diverse social and geopolitical contexts.
